* USA - UPS Eyes Small-Medium Sized European Acquisitions. CFO statement dampens speculation of bid for TNT express unit


Atlanta,GA,USA -The Journal of Commerce Online, by Bruce Barnard -Dec 9, 2010: -- United Parcel Service is targeting small and medium-sized European acquisitions rather than big ticket deals, the U.S. parcel delivery firm's chief financial officer said... Kurt Kuehn's remarks in an interview with German newspaper Boersen-Zeitung dampened speculation UPS might bid for Dutch group TNT's express delivery unit... Kuehn said UPS might not buy traditional parcel delivery companies but possibly supply chain services or firms operating in specialized customer markets... UPS re-emerged as potential bidder for TNT Express alongside FedEx after TNT last week unveiled plans to split its mail and express operations on Jan. 1, 2011... TNT has long been regarded as a prime target for the two U.S. rivals to expand their operations in Europe, where the Dutch firm has an 18 percent market share and is a major competitor to DHL... TNT intends to retain a 29.9 percent stake in its express operation, which analysts valued at around $8 billion earlier in the year...
