Webster,MASS,USA -The Boston Herald, by Daniel Dorr -December 14, 2010: -- Before reiterating misconstrued information from the Sierra Club, Bruin Andrew Ference should study the history of the trucking industry (“Conservation the goal,” Dec. 11). The goal of increased efficiency has been pursued from the beginning. Sixty years ago big trucks got 2 mpg. Today it has improved some 400 percent in the 6 to 8 mpg range... Recently U.S. Transportation Secretary, Ray LaHood, requested that the industry gain another 20 percent while the Sierra Club wishes for 35 percent. Before demanding lofty goals they should consider the limitations of the physics involved. It is only in their utopian mind-set that perfect changes can be made by fiat...
