TRUCKMAKERS NEWS WORLDWIDE * Brazil: Fiat Sports Up its Strada Pickup Truck in

Sao Paulo,SP,Brazil -Carscoop -December 28, 2010:  ...  Fiat has introduce his Strada compact pickup truck called Sporting... The Strada Sporting is distinguished on the outside by the new aero kit, which comprises of a front spoiler, side skirts and wheel arch add-ons - all painted in the same color as the body, as well as the 16-inch alloy wheels dressed in 185/55 tires. Other styling cues include the smoked headlamps and the silver trim on the mirrors, front fog lights, roof bars and the rear bumper... Fiat's designers also updated the interior of the compact pickup truck with leather trimmed sports steering wheel, handbrake and gearbox lever (all with red-stitching), unique seat trims, red-colored seat belts, aluminum pedals and a revised instrument panel... The new trim level of the Strada Extended Cab is powered by the Italian firm's 1.8-liter 16v four-cylinder flex-fuel engine producing 130HP and 18.4 lb.-ft. of torque when running on gasoline and 132HP and 18.0 lb.-ft. on ethanol. Fiat says it has also fine-tuned the suspension and manual gearbox of the Strada Sporting...


* Italy - Fiat will build the Opel Combo

Torino,Italy -Van &; Business, by Stijn Phlix -15 Dec 2010: -- Fiat will manufacture, from December 2011, a minimum of 250,000 light trucks account for Opel. This is the model for the successor to the Opel Combo... These new vehicles that will use the platform of the Fiat Doblo current will be produced at the plant Tofas Bursa, Turkey, where the Doblo are already assembled. They will be marketed as early as January 2012 by the dealers of Opel and Vauxhall in Europe and other markets, except North America... Opel and Vauxhall Combo retain the name for this range that will include multiple versions, including vans, cars and chassis cab...


* India - After three years, Tata-Iveco alliance lies in cold storage

Mumbai,India -Business Standard, by Swaraj Baggonkar- January 5, 2011: -- More than three years after Tata Motors and Iveco, a Fiat Group company, signed a comprehensive agreement to jointly explore opportunities in the area of commercial vehicles, the plan has largely remained in cold storage...  In February 2007, Tata Motors and Iveco signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for potential developments in engineering, manufacturing, sourcing and distribution of products and components. The MoU also paved the way for Tata Motors’ ambitious plan of launching its own range of trucks and buses overseas and Iveco’s models in India. These would have been done through leveraging the distribution and marketing strengths of both companies...  The Italian truck maker said the two companies did not find any synergies between their individual plans. “The MoU considered exploring the potential for cooperation between the two companies in India and throughout the world. By the end of 2007, it was clear that there was little scope for cooperation,” said a spokesperson at Iveco in an emailed reply.


* Germany - Daimler Raises Mitsubishi Fuso Truck Stake to Expand in Japanese Market

Stuttgart,Germany -Bloomberg (USA), by Cornelius Rahn -Jan 11, 2011: -- Daimler AG, the world’s biggest truckmaker, boosted its stake in Mitsubishi Fuso Truck & Bus Corp. for 30 billion yen ($361 million) to benefit from a recovery in global demand for commercial vehicles... The German company lifted its holding in Kawasaki, Japan- based Mitsubishi Fuso to 89.29 percent from 85 percent, the manufacturers said today in separate statements...  Fuso, which covers Daimler’s Asian market and is carrying out research in hybrid-powered vehicles, is ahead of schedule on a program totaling about 760 million euros ($983 million) in annual savings, Daimler said in November...


* USA - GMC shows off heavy-duty off-road pickup concept

Detroit,MICH,USA -Penton Media / Fleet Owner -Dec 21, 2010: -- General Motors is showcasing a new heavy-duty off-road concept pickup aimed at commercial users and consumers alike who operate their vehicles in rougher-than-normal terrain. The GMC Sierra All Terrain HD concept is an exploration of heavy-duty truck capability combined with greater off-road versatility, GM said... The concept features a modified, production-based 4WD chassis and the Sierra’s Duramax diesel/Allison 1000 six-speed powertrain... The enhanced suspension and unique body dimensions, including increased ground clearance and wider track, as well as greater approach/departure angles, deliver off-road capability while maintaining heavy-duty grade payload capacity and trailer towing capability, said Lisa Hutchinson, GMC product marketing director... The concept truck has an estimated payload capacity of 2,700 lbs, estimated conventional towing capacity of 13,000 lbs, and an estimated fifth-wheel towing capacity of 15,600 lbs, Hutchinson noted...


* Germany - Mercedes Benz production up

Mercedes-Benz has announced, for example, that production at the Wörth factory has increased by 60 % compared to 2009...  The trend is set to continue in 2011. The manufacturer has also announced that Actros vehicles are going to be offered in Brazil and Turkey, in view of the very positive development of these markets. Starting this December, the Actros has also been produced in Turkey and will be assembled, in the future, in Brazil...


* Russia - Mega-order for MAN

Moscow,Russia -Fleet Europe (Belgium), by Claude Yvens -30 Dec 2010: -- The Russian subsidiary of MAN has just won a contract involving the delivery of 1700 TGS vehicles to the Tander company, the management structure behind the Magnit Russian large stores chain. The first 620 models will be delivered in February 2011, with the rest to follow during the course of the year... The vehicles are divided between TGS 26.350 6x2 BL-WW which will be used for deliveries to the supermarkets themselves (at MAN the WW version signifies the most robust models destined for difficult terrain), and TGS 18.360 4x2 BLS which will be used for traffic between the logistics centres, and for international transport...

* Germany - MAN name change

* Sweden - Scania delivering trucks to Liberia


Stockholm,Sweden -Fleet Europe (Belgium)Michel Buckinx -16 Dec 2010: -- Scania has taken an order for 502 heavy trucks (with an optionfor 100 other vehicles) from Buchanan Renewables Fuels in Liberia. * UAE / Dubai - Hinduja: Aim to become top 10 commercial vehicle-maker

Ras Al Khaimah,Dubai -LiveMint (UK) -Dec 16 2010: -- In October, 2006, Ashok Leyland had signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Ras Al Khaimah Investment Authority (RAKIA) for setting up the assembly unit... The Hinduja Group on Thursday said it is looking to expand the geographical reach and production capacity of flagship automobile firm Ashok Leyland in a big way to make the company one of the top 10 global commercial vehicle producers in the next five-year... The venture, which reportedly entailed an investment of around $50 million, will have an initial annual capacity to assemble 2,000 buses of international styling and quality. However, the company plans to manufacture truck models being sold in Europe at the UAE facility in the near future... The first European models to roll out from the new RAK factory will be the D75-140, a 7.5-tonne truck powered by a 140-hp engine, and the D120-180 (12-tonne, 180-hp engine), with wheel base options.. Occupying over 1,00,000 square meters of land with a built-up area of 20,000 sq metres, the vehicle factory is a world-class facility with an initial annual production capacity of 2,000 buses and trucks per annum...
