Highway would help promote connectivity and trade facilitation
Hanoi,VietNam -The Journal of Commerce Online (USA), by Hisane Masaki -May 6, 2011: -- Japanese Finance Minister, Yoshihiko Noda, proposed an “Asia Cargo Highway” as Asia’s long-term goal to create seamless flows of goods in the region... Noda made the formal proposal in an address to an annual meeting of the Asian Development Bank (ADB) in Hanoi on Thursday... Noda said that Asian countries need to promote regional cooperation and integration through the facilitation and speeding up of cross-border flows of goods... With the concept of an Asia Cargo Highway and Japan's pledge last year of $25 million to the ADB for regional trade facilitation, Japan will work closely with the bank, the World Customs Organization (WCO) and other entities to support Asia's drives to promote "connectivity" in the fast-growing region through increased trade facilitation, he said... ASEAN consists of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.
